One significant cause of progressive hearing loss is the congenital enlargement of the cochlear aqueducts. This condition is referred to as large vestibular aqueduct (LVA) syndrome, also known as enlarged or dilated vestibular aqueduct syndrome. Recently, enlargement of the vestibular aqueducts as the sole radiographically detectable inner ear anomaly has been recognized as a distinct pattern of congenital inner ear malformation. Pathogenesis of the large vestibular aqueduct syndrome probably stems from an early derangement in the embryogenesis of the endolymphatic duct. Large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS), also known as enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) or large endolymphatic sac anomaly (LESA), refers to the presence of congenital sensorineural hearing loss with an enlarged vestibular aqueduct due to enlargement of the endolymphatic duct. Enlarged vestibular aqueducts can be bilateral or unilateral.

The enlarged aqueducts are associated with hearing loss. Common symptoms reported by people with large vestibular aqueduct syndrome Enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) syndrome is a common congenital inner ear malformation characterized by a vestibular aqueduct with a diameter larger than 1.5 mm, mixed or sensorineural hearing loss that ranges from mild to profound, and vestibular disorders that may be present with a range from mild imbalance to episodic objective vertigo. Materials and methods. Seventeen patients affected with large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS), diagnosed by means of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging of the inner ear, with 3-dimensional reconstructions of the labyrinth and by high-resolution spiral computed tomography of the temporal bone, performed only on the oldest patients, have been submitted to a complete audiological The large vestibular aqueduct syndrome in children: a review of 12 cases and the description of a new clinical entity. Large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS) is characterised by sensorineural hearing loss caused by a malformation of the structures of the inner ear. This is one of the most frequent anomalies of the inner ear, leading to hearing loss in childhood [5, 15, 41, 42, 46].

This is called an enlarged vestibular aqueduct, or EVA; the condition is also known as a dilated vestibular aqueduct or a large vestibular aqueduct. If a vestibular aqueduct is enlarged, When a vestibular aqueduct is larger than normal, it is known as a large vestibular aqueduct (LVA) or by the term used here, enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA).

Treatment is with mechanical hearing implants . There is an association with Pendred syndrome and incomplete cochlear partition (so called "Mondini dysplasia"). Objectives/hypothesis: Large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS) is one of the common causes of hearing loss (HL).

Purpose . Slc26a4 -/- mice exhibit severer defects in the development of the cochlea and develop deafness, while the underlying mechanisms responsible for these effects remain unclear.

The natural This paper presents the second case in the literature of large vestibular aqueduct syndrome without associated cochlear anomalies in 2 members of the same family. The syndrome is frequently associated with sensorineural hearing loss presenting in childhood. The onset is commonly sudden, following an event causing increased intracranial pressure.
